We’ve all had those summer days where the heat feels sticky and oppressive rather than pleasant, and on those days all you want to do is dress in loose, light layers, lie in the shade, and put your hair up. These versatile styles will last all throughout lazy days when you don’t want the weight and heat of hair on your neck, right into the evenings at a relaxed cocktail party or nighttime trip to the beach.

THE NEW FLOWER CROWN

Swedish blogger and model Johanna Herrstedt normally appears on the pages of her Instagram wearing a casual topknot or jaunty ponytail  but occasionally this Scandi style queen tries a more elaborate updo. This stunning flower-woven braid is the perfect summer look to try out for a garden party, or style it with a monochrome maxi and sneakers to bring some blossoming colour to a city look. It’s a chic and visually interesting twist on a flower crown.

FAKE A BOB

There are far worse places to look for locks-inspo than Jenny Cho, who is the favourite hairdresser of A-listers like Jennifer Lawrence, Emilia Clarke and Selena Gomez. Tousled waves and barely-mussed bedhead is her forte, but she also creates amazing, fashion-forward updos that are actually wearable in real life. This tucked-and-rolled faux bob look on actress Nicola Anne Peltz  is the perfect undone updo for casual beach gatherings.

WRAP IT UP

Scarves in hair can sometimes seem a little too try-hard, which is a far cry from the effortless chic we want to convey. Plus, all the retro victory rolls that seem to be paired with most scarf styles require too much heat styling and attention for us to bother in summer. But hairdresser to the stars Kirstin Ess  shows us how to accentuate a cute, blunt bob with a simple silk scarf for a style that is all summer and no struggle.

Cassie Doney is a writer based in the UK, too bad her accent can't be heard through her writing but we promise you, it's there and we love it. She loves to write and speaks her mind.
