Before we begin – there is no cream, pill, or surgery that will remove cellulite. Cellulite is a completely normal, natural and healthy formation of fat below the skin, and most people have it – even extremely slender celebrities. However, there are natural ways to reduce the appearance of cellulite, like these tips.
This treatment is exactly what it sounds like – you brush your skin. After you have a shower and have thoroughly dried yourself with a towel, you take a soft-bristled brush and start to rub it along your skin in long, sweeping movements towards the heart starting from the feet upwards. Many people claim that this helps to reduce cellulite because it removes toxins from your skin – however, this is completely false. Cellulite is not caused by toxins and dry brushing would not remove them anyway. Instead, dry brushing exfoliates your skin and promotes blood flow, meaning the skin on your legs and buttocks looks plumper and smoother.
TIPS – It’s recommended to use a natural bristle brush as synthetics like nylon bristles can rip the skin – we love this boar hair brush from Sephora.
This is another exfoliating trick that will reduce the appearance of cellulite simply by removing dead skin. Take used coffee grounds from your coffee machine or purchase a scrub like this delicious-sounding raw coconut and coffee sugar scrub from Sister & Co, and rub it over the cellulite in circular movements while you’re in the shower.
TIPS – Do this step before you use your normal soap or shower gel, or you may find yourself smelling like eau de Starbucks for the rest of the day.
OMEGA-3 FATTY ACIDS
It’s not exactly the most glamourous beauty tip – but increasing your consumption of omgea-3 fatty acids is believed to help reduce the appearance of cellulite, as it stimulates collagen production and reduces inflammation. These claims are not scientifically proven, but omega-3 has countless other health benefits so eating more omega-3 rich foods taking a capsule supplement, is always a good idea.
TIPS – Omega-3 rich foods include salmon, walnuts, soybeans and flaxseeds (which can be found in flaxseed oil.)
