Hillary Clinton is a well known public figure with years of experience in domestic and foreign politics. Former First Lady of the United States and Secretary of State during the first Obama administration, Clinton might have won the nomination to be the first woman running for president of the United States of America. And that’s huge!
Clinton may not be the liberal winner Americans seek on such issues as poverty and social inequality, but in a world increasingly sexist and extremist, there are many reasons to be happy about the possibility of having a woman in the White House.
And to celebrate, we listed 5 reasons to be excited about Hillary Clinton:
1. We will have to face the truth:
Obviously, female candidates still have to face bias in the political system, just as black and other minorities do. But the fact that we will have to live this situation and, literally, make a choice about who we think should be the next leader of the Government, that itself is already important. For ages women had to hear countless excuses about problems we’ve always knew were more than real and affected our daily lives. And now we will see the discussion happening in a national arena and this is great!
2. It is time to change the scenario:
The Founding Fathers, Reagan, Nixon, Bush, Obama. The US history is filled with men and, until 8 years ago, filled with white men. When a woman takes up the mantle of “Leader of the Free World,” this nation will cross a line, never to return. We will never have to live in a country dominated by male individuals and this can be the first step to a better world for women.
3. She stands for what’s right:
She’s pro equal rights for LGBT Americans and also pro choice. She doesn’t like the ideal of “religious freedom” to justify discrimination. She wants to fix economic inequality. She supports gun control. She supports other women and understand that climbing towards equality is hard. She supports absolutely everything that Trump hates.
4. She overcame personal scandal and now may become POTUS:
Donald Trump has been using Clinton’s personal affairs during his whole campaign. It’s exactly what happens with all women victim of revenge porn, abusive relationships, adultery, victim blaming. Trump described Hillary as an “enabler” who “treated these women horribly,” referring to the multiple women who have gone public claiming they had affairs with Bill Clinton. It’s very important to have this very clear in the heads of every american voter. This is what we go through on a daily basis but not all of us can become president. She can and she might.
5. She cares
Hillary Clinton isn’t perfect. She’s not “Obama Cool” or “Bernie Revolutionary.” As a old school politician, she did wrong and she did right, and the cycle will probably continue. But Hillary is more than just a policy lady who can’t wait to sit in the Oval Office. She cares. She tries. And now she has a chance to do it and finally tell the story she’s always wanted: the country that found the strength, that beat racism and bigotry. She’s all about making America great, and she means great good, not great racist.
We might have badass Elizabeth Warren as her VP, which would give Clinton 100+ points.
